Since ancient times, people have valued being able to keep memories of their experiences. With recent cloud storage services, such as Dropbox, Skydrive, Ubuntu One and Google Drive, it’s become easier than ever to preserve our memories.
Since there’s several cloud services out there let’s compare a few of the major ones.
Google Drive
- Started in 2012
- Offers 5 GB of free storage
- For additional storage: $30/year for 25 GB, $60/year for 100 GB, $600 for 1 TB
- Uploads any file size
Ubuntu One
- Started in 2009
- Offers 5 GB of free storage
- For additional storage: $30/year for 20 GB more (can buy several 20 GB packs)
- Uploads files up to 5 TB
Dropbox
- Started in 2008
- Offers 2 GB of free storage with up to 18 GB free- about 500 MB per referral
- For additional storage: $99/year for 50 GB, $199/year for 100 GB, $795/year for unlimited storage (five users)
- Uploads any file size
Microsoft Skydrive
- Started in 2007
- Offers 7 GB of free storage
- For additional storage: $10/year for 20 GB, $25/year for 50 GB, $50/year for 100 GB
- Uploads files up to 2 GB

My Opinion: I love the many free services that are available on the internet. I think it’s wonderful that many websites use a freemium model, where the website owner makes money off of advertising, optional subscriptions, etc. I love Dropbox and Google Docs. These and many other free resources allow us to do more than we’ve ever been able to do. We have an ever increasing opportunity!
